We love Ruby, and Rails, and Sinatra. They're great, and we're not giving them up anytime soon.
But its time to learn something new. I learned Ruby back in 2005, and god know I'm no expert, but I am beginning to get a little bored. And yup, I need something more exciting.
None of the JVM based languages make me hard. Clojure - meh. Smalltalk, nope.
However I'm perking my ears up at Node.js. It looks interesting. I always wanted to get more into Javascript instead of nibbling away at the edges.
But how does one go about learning a new language? Buying a big thick book and hibernating until I finish it? Nope. Best was is to build a real project. That way you're FORCED to actually lookup what you need to know from the language, find the resources, the experts, and the discussion areas.
So I'm going to build a little pet project on the weekends, which I'll tell you more about.
In the meanwhile, I don't see too many resources online for Node.js. Yeah, there are some things there, but the community is still fairly small. Some interesting places:
* The Node.js official website
* Javascript, the world's most misunderstood language
As I find more resources I'll add em.
